Nate's Charity Mission to The Gambia

Mister Supranational 2019, Nate Crnkovich from the United States, recently visit The Gambia for a very special reason. Nate was part of a charity mission to this this western African nation. The Gambia is the smallest country on the African continent and is facing many challenges. The poverty rate is very high. Gender inequality and acute malnutrition are also huge problems.

Nate arrived in Banjul, the capital city, and visited an orphanage where he joined the children in their classroom. He also visited the Principal Nursing Officer, Grace Eketemo, at the Medical Research Council. This visit was of great importance to Nate as he wanted to learn more about the work they do and how he can use his skills as a nurse to best support them in the future.

During the rest of the trips, Nate and the team accompanying him visited schools in Busumbala, Labranda, Brufut and Ghanatown. They spent time with the children and delivered impromptu English and Geography lesson. Much needed food and supplies were also delivered as part of their mission.

“This has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The people here have next to nothing, yet they were some of the kindest and happiest people I have ever met. One girl even put two Dalasi coins in my pocket without me realizing it. This kind of generosity and kindness really puts things into perspective. I fell in love with this country and its people and I hope to return in the future to continue my work here,” Nate reflected about his time in The Gambia.

Mister Supranational, Nate Crnkovich, will visit The Gambia from 5-12 February on a charitable mission with a group from Poland. The purpose of this visit will be to deliver much needed supplies to schools in the country. While visiting the schools, the group will also be offering lessons to the children. Nate will also be visiting some hospitals in country where he hopes to use his skills as a nurse and share knowledge with the local doctors. Our Mister Supranational has decided to use his own prize money to fund the trip. “When I was named Mister Supranational, I said I want to make a difference. I really meant it and I hope this trip will be the first of many this year where I can use this title in a meaningful way,” said Nate.
